History Of Tinton Falls

Tinton Falls is a resource magnet. It was originally occupied by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans until the Europeans purchased the land in the mid-1600s. As a resource rich area, Tinton Falls was immediately home to water power and iron ore operations. The great, 30-foot waterfall powered many operations during the colonization as well as being a lovely, scenic place to live. At the time of the town’s inception, Tinton Falls was known as New Shrewsbury. The mining and operations of iron ore was one of the biggest in the area until the late 19th century thanks to the owner/operator, Colonel Lewis Morris. Morris built his manor on his new 3,000+ acreage and named it Tintern Manor after his family in England. This is likely the reason for the new town name, Tinton Falls, which became official in 1975 (although Tinton Falls is technically a borough under the Faulkner Act).

Today, Tinton Falls is known for its beautiful parks, the namesake waterfall, and many wildlife areas for viewers to enjoy.
